GLOBAL INVESTOR CONFIDENCE: BOWDEN SUPPORTS INDIAN LISTED COMPANY INVESTING IN SOUTH AFRICA’S WATER INFRASTRUCTURE

June 2025

WPIL SA acquired a 55% stake in Paterson Candy International (SA) Pty Ltd (known as PCI Africa), a Johannesburg-based leader in water and wastewater engineering and turnkey contracting.

The transaction, which received approval from the South African Competition Commission, underscores the confidence of international investors in South Africa’s water infrastructure sector. The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (DTI) also expressed special interest in the deal, highlighting its strategic importance for national water security and economic growth.

WPIL SA forms part of WPIL Limited, a company listed on the Mumbai Stock Exchange in India, with a global footprint across water management solutions and large-scale pumping projects.

PCI Africa, with a heritage dating back to the 1870s, has built a strong track record in delivering municipal, utility, and industrial water projects across Africa. Its integration into WPIL’s international network creates a powerful platform to drive innovation, expand capacity, and contribute to the urgent national agenda of strengthening South Africa’s water infrastructure.

Bowden is proud to have advised on this transaction, enabling WPIL to expand its African footprint and ensuring that PCI Africa is well positioned to leverage global expertise, capital, and technology for sustainable growth.
